12/11/2002: REMINDER -- All Athena nodes are down for maintenance today.
The estimated time for them to be brought back up has been extended
at least until 1:00 pm today (possibly longer)
12/6/2002: IMPORTANT NOTICE for Athena users: ALL systems
will be out of service from 9:00 AM until Noon on 12/11/02. This includes
all Athena nodes and CISERFS1 fileserver.
Please plan accordinglly.
11/19/2002 Added Athena Nodes:
GOOD NEWS for Athena users!! Three nodes have temporarily been
added to the Athena cluster for your use. As of today, "Athena10", "Athena11",
and "Athena12" are available for SAS , Stata, SPSS, and Gauss users. Yet
another node (Athena09) will be added in the not too distant future.
These temporary nodes are set up much like the rest of the Athena nodes,
but with fewer applications installed. SAS users should take note that
these nodes have the recently released SAS Version 9.0 installed!
This is an early version available by request only, and it includes several
procedures that are now multi-threaded for faster processing (Proc Sort,
Proc Means, Proc Summary). Information about the new features of
SAS Version 9.0 and full documentation are available online at http://www.sas.com/service/software/9/
.
We hope these additional resources will help alleviate the "slowness"
many of you have been experiencing due to the heavy use of Athena01-Athena08.
Please contact ciser@cornell.edu
if you have questions or problems logging on to these nodes.
10/24/2002: Alert! Athena03 unstable:
Athena03 is unstable right now due to a failing drive. A new drive
has been ordered and the machine will be rebuilt once the drive arrives.
In the meantime please be aware that although this node is up and running,
it may crash without warning -- so please do not rely on it for long-running
jobs.
10/21/2002: Nodes back up!
All Athena nodes and CISERFS1 are back up and running. Please
report any problems to ciser@cornell.edu.
10/18/2002: Node downtime scheduled.
Attention all Athena users!!!
We have scheduled a downtime for ALL of the Athena nodes and CISERFS1
for Tuesday, 10/22/02. The downtime is expected to last from 8:00
AM until Noon. During that time we will be updating software licenses
that are due to expire, updating the backup software client and installing
maintenance software.
Reboots of these systems will cause your active sessions to fail, please
plan accordingly.
10/7/2002: Emergency Re-boot:
All Athena nodes and CISERFS1 will be down today from 1:30 PM until
2:30 PM for emergency maintenance. All active sessions will be lost,
due to rebooting the systems. We apologize for the inconvenience!
9/13/2002
ATHENA USER TRAINING:
There will be an Athena
User Training session on Wednesday, Sept 25, 2-4 PM in the computer
lab of Mann Library.
To register go to http://ciser.cornell.edu/ASPs/Workshops.asp
RECENT UPGRADES to the Athena nodes include the following:
Genstat 6th Edition Release 6.1
CMTM version 0.90
MPI/Pro version 1.6.4
Gauss version 5.0
STATA SE
SPSS 11.0.1
SPLUS 6.0
Mathematica 4.2
RECENT CHANGES:
Fortran is no longer installed
on the Athena nodes. Users may compile Fortran code on the CTC Login
Nodes and then run the code on Athena nodes if desired (contact ciser@cornell.edu for
more detail or questions.)
DISK SPACE ISSUES:
Our 2 terabytes of disk
space on the CISER file server are disappearing rapidly, and backups
are taking progressively longer!!!! Users should remove any files
that are not research related, and compress files which are not being
used frequently.
8/22/2002: All of the Athena nodes have been brought
back up.
In order to restore your user profiles (restore shortcuts,
mappings, etc that you had there before the node rebuild), you will need
to follow the simple instructions below once on each node (ie: all nodes
01-08).
For example: login to Athena08 and open a command window (Start
--> Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt).
Ensure that you are at the u:\ directory (if not type "u:"
and press "enter").
Type "restore_profile.pl" then hit "enter".
REPEAT for each node.
8/19/2002: Wednesday, August 21st, Athena01-07 will be down
from Noon until 4:00 PM. During this downtime software updates will
be applied. Look for additional messages referencing details pertaining
to this update. Please plan accordingly. Thank you.
7/30/2002: The Athena08 node is being rebuilt and is not available
at this time. If you have questions please contact CISER at ciser@cornell.edu .
7/25/2002: The Athena nodes and file server were down today from
7:00 AM to ~ 10:30 AM. The Athena08 node is being rebuilt and is not available
at this time. If you have questions please contact CISER at ciser@cornell.edu .
4/25/2002: Athena08 rebuilt (user profiles will need to be retrieved):
- Due to a hardware failure, the Athena08 node was rebuilt on Wednesday,
April 24th.
- This means that your user profile (shortcuts, drive mappings,
etc) will not appear when you first log back on to this node.
- Users may retrieve their desktop profiles for the node by doing
the following:
- On Athena08 open a command window:
- Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt.
- Change to the directory that contains the profiler.exe file:
- In the command window, at the prompt type "cd U:\CISER
Tools\", then hit "enter"
- Run the profiler:
- At the command prompt type "profiler" and hit "enter".
- After running the "profiler", log off the Athena08 node
and then log back on again.
- This will rebuild your user profile on the Athena08 node and restore
your shortcuts and drive mappings.
04/18/2002: CISERFS1 reboot
- Tomorrow morning, Friday, April 19th, at 7:00 AM CISERFS1
(U:\) will be rebooted in order to add some necessary patches. Please
plan your work accordingly.
02/04/2002: Athena03 Reboot:
- Athena03 is not working properly and will be rebooted at 10:30 AM
this morning.
