8/03/2007 Intermittent network disconnects this afternoon
- There were several periods this afternoon (between ~2:30 and 3:15 PM) when network connections to the Athena nodes were unavailable. All seem to be working again now. The nodes did NOT go down, and all jobs running at the time should have continued to run without interruption.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE!
6/27/2007 Wed, 2 PM Update:
- Our systems team is in the homestretch of the file server and system restructuring!
- We will post notices here as the system (Athena nodes and file server) comes back online. Our best estimate is that the system will be fully available by tomorrow morning (Thursday, June 28th).
- We will post notices here if any of the nodes become available duing this afternoon or evening.
6/22/2007 Downtime extended through Wed morning, June 27th
- The node relocations and software upgrades and updates have gone very smoothly during this downtime --- but the disk space addition and reconfiguration will take longer than anticipated. The downtime is now expected to last through Wednesday morning, June 27th. If you have critical computing needs in the meantime please contact cam6@cornell.edu. Thank you for your patience
6/14/2007 Athena downtime WILL begin at 4 AM on Monday, June 18th!
- All Athena nodes and the file server will be down beginning at 4 AM this Monday, June 18th. This is a major downtime which will involve physically moving the entire system, adding new hardware, and performing a major reconfiguration of the entire system.
- Athena users should not expect to be able to resume work as usual on the Athena nodes until Monday June 25th. If individual nodes become available during the week we will post a notice to this website.
- Thank you in advance for your patience during this downtime!
6/11/2007 Athena65 reboot
- Athena65 stalled over the weekend and had to be rebooted early this morning (Monday, June 11). Any jobs you had running there will need to be restarted.
6/5/2007 UPDATE: Extended downtime for all Athena nodes in mid-June
- Please note! Our revised best estimate for the extended downtime is June 18-24. We are dependent on the schedule of the vendor and the technicians, and will keep you posted.
5/23/2007 Extended downtime for all Athena nodes in mid-June
- Please note! We expect the arrival of a new file server in early June. This will provide additional disk space for Athena users and allow the implementation of a new disk space policy for the coming academic year. The necessary file system restructuring, along with routine maintenance and upgrades, may take a full week, so our best estimate of the downtime is June 11 -17. We will keep you updated as we have more details, but please plan ahead for this extended downtime.
5/07/2007
- Important Notice to all Matlab users on the Athena nodes: Additional Matlab licenses will be added to the Athena nodes tomorrow (Tuesday, May 8) from 8-10 AM. This will require that all Matlab sessions on every Athena node be stopped during that time period. Any jobs still running will be ended and will have to be restarted after the downtime. If this poses a *critical* problem for you please write to ciser@cornell.edu.
4/05/2007: 11/30 AM
