CISER Computing User's Manual: How to Log-on

Log-on using Mac Remote Desktop Client

Below are instructions on how to get the Microsoft Remote Desktop Application from iTunes for Macs, and use it to connect to CISER's servers.

1.  Download and install the app

2.  Configure the Remote Desktop Connection

  • Most researchers may connect to any of these:  rsch101.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rsch102.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rsch103.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rsch104.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rsch105.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rsch106.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
  • Users of R, Rscript, and ArcGIS should connect either of these:  rschG101.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rschG102.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
  • Users of Class accounts should connect to either of these:  rschCL1.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rschCL2.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rschCL3.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
    rschCL4.ciserrsch.cornell.edu
  • Users with _CHE accounts should connect to:  rsch601.ciserrsch.cornell.edu

Credentials: Leave the User name and Password blank. Select File at the top of the screen and click Close.

3.  Log-on to the research server

You should now see the connection name you created in the list under My Desktop. Double click on the name of your connection. The first time you connect to the server select Connect Always.   more...

Once you get to a log-on prompt, enter your CISER username and password.

  • Prefix your username with ciserrsch\  e.g., ciserrsch\abc234_RS.

NOTE: It's important that you understand the difference between log-off and disconnect.
