Password Related Issues in the CRADC Domain

Password Policy

All CRADC computing system users are required to change their passwords every 90 days. The system is automated to inform users 14 days in advance of when their account is due for a password change. To maintain the system security all CRADC users are encouraged to change their password frequently. If a user suspects that her/his password may have been compromised, please e-mail your concerns and questions to the system custodian.

To change your password on a CRADC node go to:

Start -> Settings -> Windows Security,  then select Change Password.

A CRADC password must meet the following guidelines. Passwords must be at least 14 characters long. Passwords may not contain your user name or any part of your full name.  Passwords must contain characters from at least three of the following four classes:

  • English upper case letters A, B, C, ... Z
  • English lower case letters a, b, c, ... z

  • Westernized Arabic numerals 0, 1, 2, ... 9

  • Non-alphanumeric ("special characters") Punctuation marks and other symbols

Issues with Password Change for Users with Multiple CRADC Sessions

All CRADC computing system users are required to change their password periodically. Caution for users who use multiple CRADC sessions: If you change your password from one node while you have one or more sessions running (disconnected or active) on other nodes, you must logoff from those other sessions within 10 days. Failure to do so will result in an automatic account lockout.  Once you are logged off from all other nodes (note: logging off from the node where your password was changed, is not required),  you can then start your new sessions with your new password.

To check if you have sessions running on multiple CRADC nodes, from the CRADC node select:

Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Terminal Services Manager.

Then to cancel one of your sessions, right-click on the user name and select Log-Off.
