Launch Day for Freedom on the Move

Freedom on the Move, a crowdsourced database¬†devoted to fugitives from slavery in North America, officially launches today. Built by the CISER team in conjunction with a team of historians and researchers headed up by Ed Baptist of Cornell University, Bill Block, CISER’s director, Mary Niall Mitchell of the University of New Orleans, Vanessa M. Holden of the University of Kentucky, Hasan Kwame Jeffries of The Ohio State University, and Joshua D. Rothman of the University of Alabama, it will be an invaluable research aid, pedagogical tool and resource for genealogists, classes and individuals.
